Escherichia coli expressing SrPlsAR from Selenomonas ruminantium produces plasmalogen, comprising almost 60% of the total phospholipid content under anaerobic conditions. Both plasmenylethanolamine and plasmenylglycerol were detected, and the major acyl aldehyde derived from sn-1 vinyl ether was C16:1. Plasmalogen synthesis is affected by mutations in ATP-binding sites and Cys expected to be involved in the formation of the [4Fe-4S] cluster.

Background/objectives: The detection of pancreatic cancer (PC) often depends on indirect indicators such as parenchyma atrophy (PPA), main pancreatic duct stenosis, and low echoic areas, particularly when no mass is evident on imaging. While pathological evaluation is the gold standard for differentiating malignant from benign conditions, endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration/biopsy is not always feasible in such cases. Serial pancreatic juice aspiration cytologic examination (SPACE) via endoscopic nasopancreatic drainage (NPD) has emerged as an alternative diagnostic method, though its accuracy remains underevaluated.

Background: The mortality rate of splenic artery aneurysm rupture is very high, and patients with aneurysms larger than 30 mm are recommended for treatment, regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms. We herein report a case of splenic artery aneurysm with an abnormal bifurcation that was treated with laparoscopic ligation of the splenic artery.

Case Presentation: A 51 year-old Japanese male was referred to our hospital because a splenic artery aneurysm was noted on abdominal echocardiography during a medical examination.

Article Synopsis
  • A case study is presented of a patient who developed fatal hyperacute liver failure from varicella zoster virus after a liver transplant, marking the first report of such an occurrence in liver transplant patients.
  • Despite being positive for the virus, the patient was unvaccinated and undergoing immunosuppression, leading to quick deterioration of liver function within days post-surgery.
  • The study highlights the difficulty in diagnosing hyperacute liver failure due to the absence of skin lesions and rapid progression of the disease, which has only been reported in a few other solid organ transplant cases.

Aim: Portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an essential therapeutic and prognostic factor. E-cadherin plays a crucial role in adhesive properties and intercellular interaction in various cancer tissues, including HCC, but the expression profile and functional contribution of E-cadherin in PVTT remain unknown. This study aimed to analyze the expression of E-cadherin in the main tumor tissue and PVTT tissue of HCC, and evaluate the functional roles of E-cadherin in PVTT formation.
