Sport is increasingly recommended for haemophilic patients due to physical and psychological benefits. 'WATERCISE' is a specific aqua-training programme for haemophiliacs in which endurance, strength, coordination and mobility are trained. In the WAT-QoL study benefits and risks of regular WATERCISE training sessions were investigated in terms of health-related quality of life (HRQoL), physical functioning (PF), orthopaedic joint status (OJS), bleeding frequency and factor consumption.

We report a method of surgical treatment of sequela of septic hips and osteomyelitis of the proximal end of the femur in seven children. Roentgenologic and clinical studies before operation showed unstable hip with loss of the femoral neck and head. Reconstruction osteotomy of remnants of the neck and/or head of the femur and a callus distraction procedure in the direction of the acetabulum with the Kalnberz external fixation device was performed.

Following a clinical experience of 100 cardiac operation in infants durind deep hypothermia, as low as 15C, the authors have designed a new bath for the procedure which incorporates several improvements over those used previously. The device described allows continuous cooling or rewarming of the patient at any stage of the operation by addition of more cold or hot water as required. It is possible to operate with the patient prone or on the side at any level of hypothermia, and while using heart lung bypass.

In attempting to understand the yield region of the alpha right arrow over left arrow beta transformation in keratins (Astbury and Woods, 1933), we recently proposed a statistical-mechanical model (David and Schor, 1965) which generalized the work done by others on the helix right arrow over left arrow random coil transformation (Zimm and Bragg, 1959; Gibbs and DiMarzio, 1959) (thermal denaturation) to the case of a polypeptide under external tension (Birstein, 1962). We wish now to report the comparison of the quantitative aspects of this model to the observed tension-length isotherms (in the yield region) of Cotswold wool.
