Primary Congenital Lymphedema.

We present the case of a 26-year-old man with congenital primary lymphedema. A lymphedema of the right upper limb appeared at the age of 2 years, followed by edemas of the right lower limb and of the right part of the head and neck. A lymphedema of the left lower limb began 5 years ago, and finally an edema of the external genitalia began 2 years ago.

"Lack of knowledge is no excuse" HIV positive patient with progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. Case report from Kenya.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a severe demyelinating disease that affects the central nervous system, which has high morbidity and mortality and no effective, targeted therapies are available. According to the data from developing countries, it affects about 3 to 5% patients who are HIV positive. We present a case of a 27-year-old patient, who got infected with the HIV virus from his mother.

Neurologic complications and sequellae of infectious diseases in Uganda and Kenya: Analysis of 288 cases from two rural hospitals.

Objective: Many infections occurring in area of Sub-Saharan Africa are associated with more or less serious neurologic symptoms or complications. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of selected infectious diseases in the equatorial part of Uganda and Kenya and to monitor potential neurological complications of these infections.

Methods: The study was performed for May - August 2008.

Autoantibodies can be prognostic markers of an erosive disease in early rheumatoid arthritis.

Objective: To evaluate a contribution of selected laboratory parameters for a prediction of progressive and erosive development in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Methods: In a prospective study baseline levels of antibodies to cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP), IgM, IgA, and IgG rheumatoid factors (RFs) were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in 104 patients with RA with disease duration <2 years. Antikeratin antibodies (AKA) and antiperinuclear factor (APF) were detected by indirect immunofluorescence.

Nuclear DNA helicase II is recruited to IFN-alpha-activated transcription sites at PML nuclear bodies.

It is known that nuclear DNA helicase II (NDH II) links CREB-binding protein directly to RNA polymerase II holoenzyme, and that this interaction is essential for gene activation by CREB. Here, we report for the first time that some NDH II/RNA helicase A is a component of promyelocytic leukemia nuclear bodies (PML NBs). An autoimmune serum specific for PML NBs was identified and used in immunoprecipitation experiments.
