Mitochondrial quality control is critical in muscle to ensure contractile and metabolic function. BNIP3L/Nix is a BCL2 member, a mitophagy receptor, and has been implicated in muscle atrophy. Human genome-wide association studies (GWAS) suggest altered BNIP3L expression could predispose to mitochondrial disease.

Low-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (LGSOC) is a rare malignancy in pediatric populations, with most ovarian tumors in adolescents typically being of germ cell origin. LGSOC is a distinct subtype of serous ovarian carcinoma characterized by slow progression, frequent estrogen receptor (ER) positivity, and resistance to traditional chemotherapy. Despite its indolent nature, most patients ultimately experience disease recurrence, highlighting the need for alternative treatment approaches.

The purpose of the present study was to explore the experiences of two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, or otherwise gender or sexually diverse (2SLGBTQIA+) couples pursuing third-party reproduction (TPR). A sample of 31 2SLGBTQIA+ couples (n = 62) from the USA and Canada attempting to conceive via third-party reproduction were recruited online, underwent a semi-structured interview about their experiences, and completed an online survey assessing fertility quality of life, anxious and depressive symptoms, and institutional betrayal in healthcare. Descriptive statistics were used to assess mean levels of quality of life, mental health symptoms, and institutional betrayal.

Hyperpolarized carbon-13 (HP-C) MRI enables the real-time measurement of dynamic metabolism by utilizing molecular probes whose magnetization has been transiently enhanced via dynamic nuclear polarization of C labels. Based on pre-clinical and clinical investigations demonstrating Warburg-related metabolic dysfunction and tricarboxylic acid (TCA)-cycle alterations in gliomas, HPC techniques appear very promising for overcoming conventional challenges to evaluating tumor burden and extent, early therapeutic response and progression among patients non-invasively. This article surveys the multi-faceted translational development of HP-C MRI in the context of glioma imaging, while emphasizing innovation concerning the pharmacy production of HP probes - [1-C]/[2-C]-pyruvate and [1-C,5-C]-alpha-ketoglutarate - that serve as non-radioactive metabolic contrast agents.
