The kidney plays an important role in iron homeostasis and mesangial cells (MCs) are phagocytic cells important for glomerular homeostasis. Sickle hemoglobin (HbS) modulators are promising clinical candidates for treatment of sickle cell disease. Although they prevent disease pathophysiology of HbS polymerization and red blood cell (RBC) sickling by increasing hemoglobin oxygen affinity, higher oxygen affinity can also cause transient tissue hypoxia with compensatory increases in erythropoiesis and subsequent increases in RBC turnover.

The ICH S7A guidance for Safety Pharmacology (SP) studies adopted in 2001 identified the core battery of studies to evaluate the acute safety of putative pharmaceutical molecules prior to First in Human (FIH) trials. To assess the utility of respiratory studies in predicting clinical AE's, seven pharmaceutical companies pooled preclinical and clinical respiratory findings.

Methods: Late-season influenza vaccine effectiveness (VE) against outpatient, laboratory-confirmed influenza was calculated among participants of the US Influenza VE Network using a test-negative design.
Results: Of 2561 participants enrolled from December 12, 2022 to April 30, 2023, 91 laboratory-confirmed influenza cases primarily had A(H1N1)pdm09 (6B.
Background: It is unknown whether high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) may potentiate or attenuate the cardiotoxic effect of chemotherapy agents such as doxorubicin (DOX) when performed shortly after treatment. The study aimed to investigate the effect of acute HIIE on cardiac function and structure performed either 1, 2 or 3 days after DOX injection in an animal model.
Methods: Female C57bl/6 mice (n = 28), 70 days old, received a bolus 20 mg/kg intravenous tail vein DOX injection.
