Background: Pelvic exenteration for locally advanced (LARC) or recurrent rectal cancer (LRRC) is technically challenging with considerable morbidity for the patient. Though surgery can confer long-term survival in selected patients, early failure, defined as recurrence with one year, represents a major issue as both survival and quality of life are severely impacted. This study aims to highlight the "bad actors" associated with early failure.

Background: Management of isolated medial meniscus posterior root (MMPR) tears is challenging, especially in older patients, where indications for repair must be weighed against potential repair failure and osteoarthritic progression.

Purpose: To compare patient-reported outcomes and incidence of failure after anatomic transtibial pullout repair for isolated MMPR tears in patients >60 versus ≤60 years of age.

Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.

Objective: Lifestyle behaviors may influence timely cancer screening, but their relationship is unknown among Hispanic women who have low cancer screening rates.

Methods: We used Cameron County Hispanic Cohort data from 2014 to 2022 to evaluate the relationship between lifestyle and compliance with mammography and Papanicolaou (Pap) screening guidelines ("up-to-date") among Hispanic women along the Texas-Mexico border. The 2018 World Cancer Research Fund scoring system characterized cancer-preventive lifestyle adherence.

Background: Acute rheumatic fever is a systemic inflammatory condition caused by beta-hemolytic streptococcal infection. Its prevalence in high-income countries has fallen significantly as a result of widespread antibiotic use and improved living conditions.

Case Summary: We report the case of an 18-year-old, otherwise healthy, Irish woman who presented to an Irish hospital with fever and general malaise on a background of recurrent pharyngitis.

Polygenic severe obesity (body mass index [BMI] ≥40 kg/m) has increased, especially in Hispanic/Latino populations, yet we know little about the underlying mechanistic pathways. We analyzed whole-blood multiomics data to identify genes differentially regulated in severe obesity in Mexican Americans from the Cameron County Hispanic Cohort. Our RNA sequencing analysis identified 124 genes significantly differentially expressed between severe obesity cases (BMI ≥40 kg/m) and controls (BMI <25 kg/m); 33% replicated in an independent sample from the same population.
