Background: Oseltamivir is recommended for the treatment of adults hospitalized with influenza, but adherence is often suboptimal. This may be due to doubts about the reliability of the evidence supporting its benefits, particularly when initiation is delayed. Micronutrients have demonstrated promise in managing inattention and emotional dysregulation in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). One plausible pathway by which micronutrients improve symptoms is the gut microbiome. This study examines changes in fecal microbial composition and diversity after micronutrient supplementation in children with ADHD ( = 44) and highlights potential mechanisms responsible for the behavioral improvement, as determined by blinded clinician-rated global improvement response to micronutrients.

Mast seeding, the synchronous and highly variable production of seed crops by perennial plants, is a population-level phenomenon and has cascading effects in ecosystems. Mast seeding studies are typically conducted at the population/species level. Much less is known about synchrony in mast seeding between species because the necessary long-term data are rarely available.

Background: Understanding site-related factors that influence enrolment within multicenter randomized controlled trials (RCT) may help reduce trial delays and cost over-runs and prevent early trial discontinuation. In this analysis of PROSPECT (Probiotics: Prevention of Severe Pneumonia and Endotracheal Colonization Trial), we describe patient enrolment patterns and examine factors influencing site-based monthly enrolment.

Modern pulmonary imaging can reveal underlying pathologic and pathophysiologic changes in the lungs of people with asthma, with important clinical implications. A multitude of imaging modalities, including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, optical coherence tomography, and endobronchial ultrasound, are now being used to examine underlying structure-function relationships. Imaging-based biomarkers from these techniques, including airway dimensions, blood vessel volumes, mucus scores, extent of ventilation defect, and extent of air trapping, often have increased sensitivity compared with that of traditional lung function measurements and are increasingly being used as end points in clinical trials.
