Invariant natural killer T (NKT) cell subsets are defined based on their cytokine-production profiles and transcription factors. Their distribution is different in C57BL/6 (B6) and BALB/c mice, with a bias for NKT1 and NKT2/NKT17 subsets, respectively. Here, we show that the non-classical class I-like major histocompatibility complex CD1 molecules CD1d2, expressed in BALB/c and not in B6 mice, could not account for this difference.

The clinical characteristics and epidemiology of Q fever in the Tropics are poorly described. We performed a retrospective cohort study of hospitalized cases between 2004 and 2017 in Reunion Island. Acute Q fever was defined in presence of a positive serology (phase II IgG ≥ 200 and phase II IgM ≥ 50), or a seroconversion (4-fold increase in phase II IgG between paired samples), or a positive PCR (blood or serum).

Here we report on Neanderthal engravings on a cave wall at La Roche-Cotard (LRC) in central France, made more than 57±3 thousand years ago. Following human occupation, the cave was completely sealed by cold-period sediments, which prevented access until its discovery in the 19th century and first excavation in the early 20th century. The timing of the closure of the cave is based on 50 optically stimulated luminescence ages derived from sediment collected inside and from around the cave.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on gonococcal arthritis (GA), a rare but significant extra-genital manifestation of gonococcal infection, analyzing cases in Reunion Island from 2008 to 2020.
  • A total of 58 cases were identified, predominantly among older men, with most cases linked to recent travel abroad, and while only a small percentage presented genital symptoms, many had other extra-genital manifestations, especially skin lesions.
  • The research highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and effective treatment to prevent joint damage, noting that PCR testing can enhance detection in cases where cultures are negative.
