Objective: To report the results of intramedullary nailing of proximal quarter tibial fractures with special emphasis on techniques of reduction.
Design: Retrospective clinical study.
Setting: Level 1 trauma center.
ADP-ribosylation factor-like 3 (Arl3) is a member of a small subfamily of G-proteins involved in membrane-associated vesicular and intracellular trafficking processes. Genetic studies in Leishmania have shown that the Arl3 homolog is essential for flagellum biogenesis. Mutations in a related human family member, Arl6, result in Bardet-Biedl syndrome in humans, which is characterized by genital, renal, and retinal abnormalities, obesity, and learning deficits.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: The treatment of distal metaphyseal tibial fractures remains controversial. This study was performed to evaluate the results of intramedullary nailing of distal tibial fractures located within 5 cm of the ankle joint.
Methods: Over a sixteen-month period at two institutions, thirty-six tibial fractures that involved the distal 5 cm of the tibia were treated with reamed intramedullary nailing with use of either two or three distal interlocking screws.
The Rrm2b gene encodes p53R2, a catalytic subunit of ribonucleotide reductase that is required for DNA repair. Embryonic stem (ES) cells containing a retroviral insertion in the Rrm2b locus were used to generate mutant mice. Analysis of kidney RNA from Rrm2b (-/-) mice showed that the retroviral insertion disrupted expression of Rrm2b transcripts.
