Screening instruments to detect problematic alcohol use among adults in hospitals and their diagnostic test accuracy: A systematic review.

Issues: Alcohol consumption can cause physical, psychological and social problems that can result in hospitalisations. Screening in hospitals helps to determine which patients should be given interventions. In this review, we aimed to summarise the diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) of screening instruments for problematic alcohol use among adults in hospitals.

Sub-cycle dynamics in two-color high-harmonic generation from laser-produced plasmas.

We present high-order harmonic generation (HHG) in laser-produced aluminium and tin plasmas driven by a two-color field with orthogonal polarization, leading to the generation of both odd and even harmonics. We shape the effective drive field with sub-cycle resolution by controlling the phase between the fundamental wave and its second harmonic. The shape of the drive field influences the electron trajectories of the various harmonics generated in these plasmas.

Exploring barriers and facilitators to addressing hazardous alcohol use and AUD in mental health services: a qualitative study among Dutch professionals.

An empirically based typology of temporary alcohol abstinence challenge participants using latent class analysis.

Introduction: Identifying subgroups of Temporary (alcohol) Abstinence Challenge (TAC) participants may offer opportunities to enhance intervention effectiveness. However, knowledge about such subgroups is missing. This study aimed to (i) describe a TAC population; (ii) identify subgroups of participants based on determinants of changes in drinking behaviour; and (iii) characterise subgroups in terms of sociodemographic and other characteristics.

Effectiveness of a self-help guide during a temporary alcohol abstinence challenge: a randomized controlled trial.

Background: The popularity of temporary abstinence challenges (TACs) concerning alcohol consumption is increasing. Support is found to be essential for participants to help them get through a challenge. This study aimed to evaluate the additional effect of a self-help guide, based on health behaviour theories and behaviour change techniques, on (i) successful completion of a TAC and (ii) changes in drinking refusal self-efficacy (DRSE), behavioural automaticity, craving, and alcohol consumption.
