Atypical vaginal location of endometriosis following repeated urogynaecological surgery.

We outline a case of vaginal endometriosis in scar tissue located in the distal part of the anterior vaginal wall close to the urethra following repeated urogynaecological surgery. Our case presents a 45-year-old woman diagnosed with pelvic endometriosis in her youth. She underwent several vaginal surgeries due to pelvic organ prolapse, symptoms of stress incontinence and decreased urinary flow.

Asherman's syndrome: current perspectives on diagnosis and management.

Intrauterine adhesions with symptoms like hypomenorrhea or infertility are known under the term Asherman's syndrome. Although the syndrome has been widely investigated, evidence of both prevention of the syndrome and the ideal treatment are missing. Understanding the pathogenesis of intrauterine adherences is necessary for the prevention of the formation of intrauterine scarring.

The influence of unilateral oophorectomy on the age of menopause.

Objective: To determine the age of menopause after premenopausal unilateral oophorectomy (UO) and to establish whether UO at a young age leads to menopause at a younger age than if UO occurs at an older age.

Methods: A cohort of 28 731 women, of whom 17 781 (62%) were menopausal, was investigated. Information on menopause was obtained from self-reported questionnaires.

Primary umbilical endometriosis (PUE).

Primary endometriosis of the umbilicus, Villars nodule, rarely occurs. It is characterized by a discolored change in the umbilicus which manifests itself with cyclic menstrual-related symptoms such as pain, swelling and bleeding. Often the diagnosis is based on objective findings, but imaging and histology predicts and verify the diagnosis.

Ovarian damage due to cyst removal: a comparison of endometriomas and dermoid cysts.

Introduction: Surgical treatment of endometriomas and potential damage to the ovary have been debated. Studies have described the inconsistent risk of unintended removal of ovarian tissue when a cystectomy of an endometrioma is performed. We evaluated the risk of inadvertently removed ovarian tissue during surgery by comparing specimens of endometriomas and dermoid cysts removed laparoscopically.
