An audit of the carbon footprint of travel for the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society International Education Foundation partnerships.

Purpose: International partnerships have an important role in capacity building in global health, but frequently involve travel and its associated carbon footprint. The environmental impact of global health partnerships has not previously been quantified.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective internal audit of the environmental impact of air travel for the international education programs of the Canadian Anesthesiology Society's International Education Fund (CASIEF).

Cardiogenic shock following nasal septoplasty: a case report and review of the literature.

Purpose: Nasal septoplasty is a surgical procedure offered to patients with chronic snoring secondary to nasal obstruction. We describe a case of cardiogenic shock following the administration of metoprolol to treat hypertension, (likely) induced by systemic absorption of topical epinephrine used during a routine nasal septoplasty.

Clinical Features: A 29-yr-old male, with no significant medical history, was scheduled for nasal septoplasty for mild nasal obstruction.

Hippocampal size positively correlates with verbal IQ in male children.

Historically, there have been numerous proposals that the size of the brain correlates with its capacity to process information. Little is known, however, about which specific brain regions contribute to this correlation in children and adolescents. This study evaluated the relationship between intelligence and the size of various brain structures in typically developing male children 8-18 yrs of age.

Correlations between antemortem hippocampal volume and postmortem neuropathology in AD subjects.

Antemortem measures of hippocampal volume have been used to distinguish subjects with and without probable Alzheimer disease (AD). However, relatively little information is available about how well such antemortem measures correlate with postmortem measures of disease in AD subjects. In this study, antemortem magnetic resonance scans were collected from 10 subjects with probable AD and 3 nondemented controls who later came to autopsy.
