Nonetheless, functional cure is rarely attained with the current treatment modalities of nucleos(t)ide analogues (NUCs) and pegylated interferon alpha (Peg-IFNα). Multiple novel virus-targeting agents and immunomodulators are under development for HBV with functional cure as the treatment goal.
