Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide and can lead to secondary sequelae such as increased seizure susceptibility. Emerging work suggests that the thalamus, the relay center of the brain that undergoes secondary damage after cortical TBI, is involved with heightened seizure risks after TBI. TBI also induces the recruitment of peripheral immune cells, including T cells, to the site(s) of injury, but it is unclear how these cells impact neurological sequelae post-TBI.

Purpose: The treatment landscape for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) has evolved in recent years with the use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and immuno-oncology (IO) therapies. This study examined patient characteristics, treatment patterns, health care resource utilization (HCRU), costs, and survival for individuals with mRCC who received either IO + IO or IO + TKI combinations as first-line (1L) regimens.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study used integrated claims and clinical data from a commercial health plan to study adults with mRCC who began 1L treatment between April 1, 2018, and January 31, 2023.

Objective: To characterize the performance of titanium mesh (TM) (off-label) for rigid chest wall reconstruction at a single institution over a 5-year period.

Methods: Between January 1, 2019, and May 15, 2023, 22 patients (median age, 61 years) underwent chest wall resection with TM reconstruction at Cleveland Clinic. Indications for resection included sarcoma (n = 15), breast cancer (n = 2), lung cancer (n = 2), chondroblastoma (n = 1), and benign neoplasm (n = 2).

The innate immune system shapes brain development and is implicated in neurodevelopmental diseases. It is critical to define the relevant immune cells and signals and their impact on brain circuits. In this work, we found that group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) and their cytokine interleukin-13 (IL-13) signaled directly to inhibitory interneurons to increase inhibitory synapse density in the developing mouse brain.

Introduction: People with opioid use disorder (OUD) on buprenorphine smoke at high rates and have low cessation rates, even with evidence-based medications. Electronic cigarettes (EC) are a promising harm reduction strategy for combusted cigarette (CC) smokers unable to quit. Unfortunately, people with OUD are underrepresented in EC research.
