Background: Diagnostic test evaluation requires a reference standard. We describe an approach for creating a reference standard for acute infection using unrestricted adjudication and apply it to compare biomarker tools.
Methods: Adults and children with suspected acute infection enrolled in three prospective studies at emergency departments and urgent cares were included.
CD47 is a ubiquitous and pleiotropic cell-surface receptor. Disrupting CD47 enhances injury repair in various tissues but the role of CD47 has not been studied in bone injuries. In a murine closed-fracture model, CD47-null mice showed decreased callus bone volume, bone mineral content, and tissue mineral content as assessed by microcomputed tomography 10 days post-fracture, and increased fibrous volume as determined by histology.

Aminoglycosides remain attractive for treating urinary tract infections (UTIs). However, aminoglycosides-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) raises concerns, especially in patients with underlying renal impairment.

It is a focus of drug development to temper and accentuate CD47-driven immune cell liaisons, although consideration of on-target CD47 effects remain neglected. And yet, a late clinical trial of a CD47-blocking antibody was discontinued, existent trials were restrained, and development of CD47-targeting agents halted by some pharmaceutical companies.
