Background: Injury and disability are prominent public health concerns, globally and in the country of Nepal. Lack of locally available medical infrastructure, socioeconomic barriers, social marginalization, poor health literacy, and cultural barriers prevent patients from accessing surgical and rehabilitative care. Overcoming these barriers is an insurmountable challenge for the most vulnerable and marginalized, resulting in absence of treatment or even death.

In occupations requiring vehicles or heavy equipment operation, exposure to whole body vibration (WBV) has been consistently associated with LBP. LBP is the most common cause of work-related disability and continues to be the leading cause of morbidity and lost productivity in the US workforce.

The objectives of this study were to: (i) characterize general health, regional body pain and WBV exposures, (ii) evaluate the associations between different WBV parameters and health outcomes, and (iii) determine whether there were factors which affect a truck driver's WBV exposures. This study analyzed WBV exposures from 96 long-haul truck drivers over their regular work shift (6-15h) per International Standards Organization (ISO) 2631-1 and 2631-5 WBV standards.

Results indicate that most of the organic species present in the sediment samples consisted of anthropogenically derived long chain aliphatic and alicyclic n-alkanes ((n)C(10-15, 17, 19-21, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30, 33, 35, 36, 43)), n-alkanols, n-alkanals, n-alkanones, esters as well as many volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Chemical composition of samples and relative concentration were found to vary both spatially and temporally on all scales.

Three common laparoscopic procedures were analysed: cholecystectomy, inguinal hernia repair, and Nissen fundoplication. In laparoscopic training workshops and operating rooms, our observational research included split screen videotaping of both the endoscopic view and our video camera's view of the primary surgeon.
