Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of premature death in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and vascular damage is often detected belatedly, usually evaluated by expensive and invasive techniques. CKD involves specific risk factors that lead to vascular calcification and atherosclerosis, where inflammation plays a critical role. However, there are few inflammation-related markers to predict vascular damage in CKD.

Introduction: Microwave imaging presents several potential advantages including its non-ionising and harmless nature. This open, multicentric, interventional, prospective, non-randomised trial aims to validate MammoWave's artificial intelligence (AI)-based classification algorithm, leveraging microwave imaging, to achieve a sensitivity exceeding 75% and a specificity exceeding 90% in breast screening.

Methods And Analysis: 10 000 volunteers undergoing regular mammographic breast cancer screening will be recruited across 9 European centres and invited to participate in the clinical study, involving MammoWave testing on both breasts.

Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked lysosomal disease whose ultimate consequences are the accumulation of sphingolipids and subsequent inflammatory events, mainly at the endothelial level. The outcomes include different nervous system manifestations as well as multiple organ damage. Despite the availability of known biomarkers, early detection of FD remains a medical need.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the impact of socioeconomic and cultural factors on the selection of renal replacement therapy (RRT) in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (ACKD) in Spain, highlighting the potential for unnoticed inequities in healthcare decision-making.
  • - A retrospective analysis of 673 patients revealed that those with higher socioeconomic status, Spanish nationality, and lower language barriers were more likely to choose peritoneal dialysis (PD) over hemodialysis (HD).
  • - The findings emphasize that non-medical barriers, rather than medical characteristics like age or sex, significantly influence patients' choices of RRT methods, suggesting areas for improvement in equitable healthcare access.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study aimed to analyze cytokines and cardiovascular markers in the plasma of Fabry disease patients, both treated and untreated, to assess their potential in monitoring disease progression and treatment effects.
  • * Researchers identified several markers associated with inflammation and endothelial dysfunction that are elevated in Fabry patients, suggesting they could be used to predict disease severity and assess treatment outcomes, despite their non-specificity to the condition.
