Objectives: To evaluate the acceptability and performance of an organ inventory as an alternative to asking about gender and/or sex assigned at birth in cancer screening.

Methods: We fielded an online, self-administered survey to a convenience sample of English- or Spanish-speaking transgender and gender-diverse (TGD), intersex, and cisgender people (>/=15 years) in the US. The survey contained an organ inventory developed with community input and questions regarding acceptability.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess if there are differences in negative neonatal outcomes (like preterm birth and low birth weight) for babies born to LGB+ parents compared to completely heterosexual parents.
  • Researchers analyzed long-term data from the Nurses' Health Study II, focusing on mothers who reported their sexual orientation and live births from 2001 and 2009, totaling 70,642 participants.
  • Findings indicated that all LGB+ groups had a higher risk of preterm births and low birth weight compared to heterosexual parents, particularly those who identified as heterosexual but had past same-sex attractions; however, the risk was not statistically significant for lesbian or gay and bisexual participants.

Lake Victoria, bordered by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, provides one of the largest freshwater fisheries in the world and supports millions in small-scale fishing communities. Historical environmental change, including population growth, nutrient loading, introduced invasive species, and rising temperatures, has resulted in eutrophication and persistent cyanobacterial harmful algae blooms (cyanoHABs) over recent decades, particularly in the shallower gulfs, bays, and inlets. CyanoHABs impact fisheries and food web dynamics and compromise food and water security for nearshore fisher populations.
