Using a newly developed flow test bench, several charge configurations were analyzed to quantify the influence of the charge configuration in the mold in sheet molding compound (SMC) manufacturing. A test bench was developed to satisfy the industrial needs for the incoming goods inspection as well as the need for the flow characterization of rheological models in the simulation. The test setup has a cylindrical opening for the charge placement, from where the material is pressed into a thin flow channel, forcing the material to reorient.

This study evaluated the significance and predictive value of ultrasonographic and physical examination on arrival at an Austrian fattening farm. Treatment frequency and average daily weight gain (ADG) were related to physical and ultrasonographic examination results. Additionally, the effect of an intranasal vaccination in half of the examined calves was studied.

This study on veal calf respiratory disease assessed the association between an on-farm clinical scoring system and lung ultrasonography with the postmortem inspection of the lungs. The comparisons allowed the calculation of predictive values of the diagnostic methods. In total, 600 calves on an Austrian veal calf farm were examined at the beginning and the end of the fattening period.

A recently developed finite element method (FEM) for the numerical simulation of nonlinear sound wave propagation in thermoviscous fluids is presented. Based on the nonlinear wave equation as derived by Kuznetsov, typical effects associated with nonlinear acoustics, such as generation of higher harmonics and dissipation resulting from the propagation of a finite amplitude wave through a thermoviscous medium, are covered. An efficient time-stepping algorithm based on a modification of the standard Newmark method is used for solving the non-linear semidiscrete equation system.
