Article Synopsis
  • SARS-CoV-2 infection can lead to long COVID, which may cause new symptoms a few months after recovery.
  • The study aimed to assess the physical capacity of patients with long COVID by comparing various respiratory and cardiovascular health metrics with a control group.
  • Results showed that while long COVID patients had similar oxygen uptake and lung function as the controls, they performed worse on the 6-minute walking test, indicating potential issues in endurance despite normal lung and oxygen metrics.*

Liquid-liquid phase condensation governs a wide range of protein-protein and protein-RNA interactions in vivo and drives the formation of membrane-less compartments such as the nucleolus and stress granules. We have a broad overview of the importance of multivalency and protein disorder in driving liquid-liquid phase transitions. However, the large and complex nature of key proteins and RNA components involved in forming condensates such as stress granules has inhibited a detailed understanding of how condensates form and the structural interactions that take place within them.

Background: Idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of the mesenteric veins (IMHMV) is a rare condition that poses a diagnostic challenge to surgeons and pathologists alike. Our aim is to describe two cases of IMHMV requiring operative intervention. The challenge going forward is accurately and systematically identifying factors from both a pathologic and clinical perspective that guide timely diagnosis and avoid unnecessary treatment.
