Introduction: Substance-related acute toxicity deaths continue to be a serious public health concern in Canada. This study explored coroner and medical examiner (C/ME)perspectives of contextual risk factors and characteristics associated with deaths from acute toxic effects of opioids and other illegal substances in Canada.
Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted with 36 C/MEs in eight provinces and territories between December 2017 and February 2018.
Objective: The purpose of this report is to describe the clinical, radiographic, and diagnostic ultrasound findings in a patient who sustained a type III Salter-Harris fracture of the first proximal phalanx.
Clinical Features: A 14-year-old male baseball player presented to a chiropractic clinic with a 2-day history of proximal thumb pain, which began following a forceful hyperabduction injury while sliding into base. Thenar swelling was evident on clinical examination, and both active and passive thumb motions were painful in all directions.
Introduction: Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) has been shown to induce positive effects on skeletal muscle resulting in enhanced physical performance. Data display that IPC positively impacts both aerobic and anaerobic performance. However, there is inconclusive data exemplifying IPC's effects on power and sprint performance.

This ensemble of globally consistent F-theory compactifications automatically realizes gauge coupling unification. Utilizing the power of algebraic geometry, all global consistency conditions can be reduced to a single criterion on the base of the underlying elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau fourfolds.

Increases in opioid-related mortality have contributed to declines in life expectancy at birth in the United States and British Columbia. Canadian national mortality data from 2000 to 2016 were analyzed to determine the contribution of poisoning-related mortality to changes in life expectancy at birth by age group and sex. From 2000 to 2016, life expectancy at birth increased by almost three years; however, mortality due to unintentional poisonings, including those involving opioids, curbed this increase by 0.
