Incredible properties of quantum dots (QDs) have once again been acclaimed with this year's (2023) Nobel prize in chemistry. On the other hand, the invention of multicolour molecular imaging of cell surface receptors for tumour diagnosis by Koyama and group has opened up a new era in diagnostics. Among them carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are interesting class of fluorescent nanomaterials, superior in terms of low toxicity, high solubility and biocompatibility along with simple and cost-effective synthesis processes unlike the traditional metal chalcogenide or perovskite quantum dots.

Introduction: Providers can evaluate patients who sustain trauma during outdoor activities by using the extended focused assessment with sonography for trauma (FAST) and the limited knee ultrasound. Remote tele-mentored ultrasound (RTMUS) can help minimally trained providers in the wilderness if they have difficulty obtaining a view or have questions about the interpretation of an image. The goal of our study was to determine the feasibility of using RTMUS to teach the FAST exam and knee ultrasound exam to ultrasound-naive medical students during a wilderness medicine outdoor activity.

Objective: We sought to determine whether aggressive local treatment provides a benefit in patients with stage IV esophageal adenocarcinoma and to determine factors associated with survival.

Methods: Patients with clinical stage IV esophageal adenocarcinoma at diagnosis who underwent esophagectomy from 2010 to 2023 were identified from our prospectively maintained database. Clinicopathologic and demographic characteristics were compared among patients by stage.

Pediatric donors are underutilized for simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation due to concerns about technical complications and inadequate islet and/or renal mass. We analyzed our experience with simultaneous en bloc kidney and pancreas transplantation using pediatric donors on 8 consecutive adult patients from 1997-2018. En bloc kidney transplants were implanted intraperitoneally and contralaterally to right-sided pancreas grafts.
