We have developed an algorithm for a particle-based model for the growth of plant tissues in three dimensions in which each cell is represented by a single particle, and connecting cell walls are represented as permanent bonds between particles. A sample of plant tissue is represented by a fixed network of bonded particles. If, and only if a cell divides, this network is updated locally.

Graphical analysis and computer simulations have become the preferred tools to present Tilman's model of resource competition to new generations of ecologists. To really understand the full dynamic behaviour, a more rigorous mathematical analysis is required. We show that just a basic stability analysis is insufficient to describe the relevant dynamics of this deceptively simple model.

In this paper we describe a viscoelastic type of phase separation in a simulated binary fluid with a sticky and an inert component, without any external gradients. Phase segregation under simple shear occurs due to transient network formation of the sticky component, expelling the inert particles from the network. When model parameters are adjusted to reduce network formation and rearrangement, the segregation effect is significantly smaller or absent.

We perform a molecular dynamics simulation study of the behavior of a lipid coating layer on an oscillating bubble surface. Micrometer sized bubbles, stabilized with a lipid monolayer coating, are used in acoustic imaging as a contrast agent. The coating layer is expected to be strongly influenced by the oscillation of the bubble in the high frequency sound field, with a period of a microsecond.

During ageing of casein or skim milk gels, structural changes take place that affect gel parameters, such as pore size and storage modulus. These changes can be explained in terms of rearrangements of the gel network at various length scales. In this paper, rheological experiments on rennet-induced casein gels and a general model on rearrangements are presented.
