Evaluating compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1540 on nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

On April 28, 2004, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1540. It requires countries to develop and enforce legal and regulatory measures against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and their means of delivery, with a focus on the spread to nonstate actors. To date, compliance with UNSCR 1540 has been challenging.

Radical Anions of Porphyrin Molecular Wires: Delocalization and Dynamics.

The delocalization length of charge carriers in organic semiconductors influences their mobility and is an important factor in the design of functional materials. Here, we have studied the radical anions of a series of linear and cyclic butadiyne-linked porphyrin oligomers using CW-EPR, H Mims ENDOR and NIR/MIR spectroelectrochemistry together with DFT calculations and multiscale molecular modeling. Low-temperature hyperfine EPR spectroscopy and optical data show that polarons are delocalized nonuniformly over about four porphyrins with most of the spin density on just two units even in the cyclic structures, in which all porphyrin sites are identical.

Unlabelled: Mitochondria are double membrane-bound organelles with pleiotropic roles in the cell, including energy production through aerobic respiration, calcium signaling, metabolism, proliferation, immune signaling, and apoptosis. Dysfunction of mitochondria is associated with numerous physiological consequences and drives various diseases, and is one of twelve biological hallmarks of aging, linked to aging pathology. There are many distinct changes that occur to the mitochondria during aging including changes in mitochondrial morphology, which can be used as a robust and simple readout of mitochondrial quality and function.

Changing the trajectories of mental health difficulties in Norfolk and Suffolk: a research-priority-setting project with patients, the public, clinicians, policymakers and other stakeholders-study protocol.

Introduction: Mental health problems are the most significant cause of disability and have high annual economic costs; hence, they are a priority for the government, service providers and policymakers. Consisting of largely coastal and rural communities, the populations of Norfolk and Suffolk, UK, have elevated burdens of mental health problems, areas with high levels of deprivation and an increasing migrant population. However, these communities are underserved by research and areas with the greatest mental health needs are not represented or engaged in research.
