Objectives: To determine the associations between trajectories of buprenorphine utilization and dose during pregnancy on maternal and neonatal health outcomes.

Study Design: Retrospective cohort study among 2,925 pregnant persons with opioid use disorder, followed from the estimated start date of pregnancy through 90 days after delivery. We used administrative healthcare data from Medicaid-enrolled individuals to assess buprenorphine dose and use and maternal (postpartum buprenorphine continuation and overdose) and neonatal (low birthweight, neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS)) outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Iliofemoral deep venous thrombosis is linked to post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS), and two main treatments are pharmacomechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis (PCDT) and mechanical thrombectomy (MT) with large-bore devices.
  • A study analyzed 349 patients from 2007 to 2022, comparing PCDT and MT, focusing on PTS rates, vessel patency, and other outcomes, finding no significant differences in PTS rates between the two treatment groups.
  • MT patients had better logistical outcomes, including greater likelihood of a single operating room visit and shorter ICU stay, but it was not associated with increased PTS risk or higher Villalta scores.

Causal inference methods can be applied to estimate the effect of a point exposure or treatment on an outcome of interest using data from observational studies. For example, in the Women's Interagency HIV Study, it is of interest to understand the effects of incarceration on the number of sexual partners and the number of cigarettes smoked after incarceration. In settings like this where the outcome is a count, the estimand is often the causal mean ratio, i.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed outcomes of lung transplantation using ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) in high-risk recipients, defined by specific medical conditions.
  • Results indicated that high-risk candidates faced a significantly greater risk of dying on the waitlist, and EVLP was linked to higher rates of acute kidney injury, increased mortality on admission, and longer hospital stays compared to standard lung procurement.
  • Despite the associated complications and shorter survival rates for portable EVLP, the study suggests this technique remains a viable option due to the high mortality risk for patients on the transplant waitlist.

Article Synopsis
  • - Resilience plays a significant role in how post-concussion symptoms (PCS) are experienced, especially among minority women who often face longer recovery times from concussions.
  • - A study involving 77 women found a moderate negative association between resilience and PCS, with stronger effects observed in Black participants compared to other races.
  • - Interventions aimed at enhancing resilience should also address mood, as both were found to independently impact PCS resolution, suggesting that this dual focus could improve recovery outcomes for minority women experiencing concussions.
