Kinematic Alignment Compared with Mechanical Alignment Techniques Results in Greater Peak Three-Dimensional Knee Joint Moments During Stair Negotiation.

Background: This study investigated the influence of surgical alignment techniques on knee joint biomechanics during stair negotiation tasks. Our hypothesis was that a more personalized joint alignment would result in reduced medial knee loading biomechanics to negotiate the stairs.

Methods: There were 28 adults (14 mechanical alignments [MA], 14 kinematic alignment [KA]) who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) at least one year post-operatively and performed five stair ascent and descent trials at their preferred velocities.

The role of nutrition-related clinical trials in informing dietary recommendations for health and treatment of diseases.

Dietary guidance is based on a robust evidence base that includes high-quality clinical trials, of which some have been designed to establish causal relationships between dietary interventions and ASCVD risk reduction. However, the complexity associated with conducting these trials has resulted in criticism of nutrition and dietary recommendations because the strength and quality of evidence falls short of that for some pharmaceutical interventions. In this paper, we aim to promote greater awareness of the nutrition-related clinical trials that have been conducted showing ASCVD benefits and how this evidence has contributed to dietary recommendations.

Grazing herbivores reduce herbaceous biomass and fire activity across African savannas.

Fire and herbivory interact to alter ecosystems and carbon cycling. In savannas, herbivores can reduce fire activity by removing grass biomass, but the size of these effects and what regulates them remain uncertain. To examine grazing effects on fuels and fire regimes across African savannas, we combined data from herbivore exclosure experiments with remotely sensed data on fire activity and herbivore density.

Development of a Continuous Glucose Monitoring Service by Clinical Pharmacists in a Medically Underserved Population.

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is an evolving technology that provides a wealth of information to aid in managing diabetes. Professional CGM (ProCGM) is recommended when personal CGM is not desired or available. Patients in medically underserved areas may have limited access to personal CGM devices, thus ProCGM devices can be used for short-term monitoring and medication adjustment.
