Cerebral organoids (COs) are a valuable tool to study the intricate interplay between glial cells and neurons in brain development and disease, including HIV-associated neuroinflammation. We developed a novel approach to generate microglia containing COs (CO-iMs) by co-culturing hematopoietic progenitors and induced pluripotent stem cells. This approach allowed for the differentiation of microglia within the organoids concomitantly to the neuronal progenitors.

Objective: Evaluation of viscoelastic parameters along with Hct percentages, platelet numbers, and fibrinogen concentrations in healthy dogs undergoing elective stifle arthroscopy and tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO). These results determine if dogs are in a normal, hypocoagulable, or hypercoagulable state at 4 different time points.

Animals: Prospective study of 37 client-owned dogs enrolled between February 2, 2022, and November 10, 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetic chronic ulcers are characterized by ongoing inflammation and have a weak initial inflammatory response due to low levels of proinflammatory cytokines, which are crucial for healing.
  • The study explores how diabetic neutrophils, which struggle to kill bacteria effectively, lead to fewer bioactive bacterial products that signal for immune response, resulting in poorer healing in infected wounds.
  • Applying lipopolysaccharide topically after debridement improves immune signaling, boosts cytokine production, enhances white blood cell movement, reduces infection, and promotes healing in diabetic wounds.*
