Diabetic kidney disease versus non-diabetic kidney disease in type 2 diabetic patients on dialysis: An observational cohort.

Background: All chronic kidney diseases in diabetic patients are not diabetic kidney diseases. The objective was to compare the clinical characteristics, survival and access to transplantation in diabetic patients starting dialysis and classified either as diabetic kidney disease (DKD) or non-diabetic kidney disease in diabetic patients (NDKD).

Methods: We used the nationwide French REIN registry to analyse baseline clinical characteristics at dialysis inception and outcomes defined as kidney transplantation, deaths and their causes.

Introduction: The 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus has emerged to cause the first pandemic of the 21st century. On July 3, 2009, novel swine-origin influenza A (H1N1) virus (S-OIV) was identified in Reunion Island, French overseas department located in the southern hemisphere. The present study describes the characteristics and the impact of the epidemic on the activity of an emergency department (ED) from July 3 to August 31, 2009.

High prevalence of chronic kidney disease in La Réunion island and its association with the metabolic syndrome in the non-diabetic population: La Réunion Diabetes (REDIA) Study.

Aim: To estimate the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in La Réunion island and to investigate the link with the metabolic syndrome in the non-diabetic population.

Methods: The Réunion Diabetes (REDIA) Study included a random sample of 3600 adults aged 30-69 years. Clinical proteinuria (>200 mg/g creatinine), albuminuria (>or=30 mg/g) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) were studied in 920 subjects, 411 of whom had diabetes and 509 who did not.
