Importance: Transportation insecurity and lack of social support are 2 understudied social determinants of health that contribute to excess morbidity, mortality, and acute health care utilization. However, whether and how these social determinants of health are associated with cancer screening has not been determined and has implications for preventive care.
Objective: To determine whether transportation insecurity or social support are associated with screening adherence for colorectal, breast, and cervical cancer.
Background And Aims: Second-generation direct-acting antivirals (2G DAA) to cure HCV have led to dramatic clinical improvements. HCV-associated hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), however, remains common. Impaired immune tumor surveillance may play a role in HCC development.

Iodinated contrast traditionally used in endovascular repair can cause significant complications, including severe allergic reactions and contrast-induced nephropathy in patients with chronic renal disease. Therefore, other imaging methods should be used during endovascular procedures to reduce these risks.

The liver frailty index (LFI) is a validated tool to evaluate frailty in cirrhosis, comprising of grip strength, chair stands, and balance tests. The chair-stand test is an easy to conduct frailty subcomponent that does not require specialized equipment and may be valuable to predict adverse clinical outcomes in cirrhosis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFluorescence polarization (FP) assays can be used to identify small-molecule inhibitors that bind to SH2 domain-containing proteins. We have developed FP assays by which to identify inhibitors of the SH2 domains of the two closely-related transcription factors STAT5a and STAT5b. Point mutation of selected amino acids in the putative binding site of the protein is a valuable tool by which to gain insight into the molecular mechanism of binding.
