[New quinolines for the treatment of urinary tract infections].

The submitted review draws attention to the role of new quinolones in anti-infectious chemotherapy of the urinary pathways. It gives an account of published results of treatment and prophylaxis of infections of the urinary pathways and the prostate, as compared with hitherto used chemotherapeutic drugs and antibiotics.

[Quinolones in the treatment of bacterial endocarditis].

The authors submit available information on the restricted use of new antimicrobial chemotherapeutic agents--quinolones--in the treatment of bacterial endocarditis in experiments and under clinical conditions. Quinolones are not suitable for the treatment of endocarditis except when the aetiological agent is Ps. aeruginosa, enterobacteria and in some instances endocarditis caused by meticillin-resistant staphylococci.

[Elevated indicators of liver metabolism in patients with giardiasis].

The authors present an account on 60 patients where, based on the clinical picture, parasitological examination and laboratory parameters, the diagnosis of giardiasis was established. Among these patients a rise of one or several indicators of liver metabolism was found in 31%. The authors discuss whether the above conditions can be considered hepatitis within the framework of the basic parasitic disease.
