Alzheimers Dement
December 2024
Background: Despite amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques and tau neurofibrillary tangles being recognized as major Alzheimer's Disease (AD) hallmarks, their synergistic contribution to neuronal activity remains unclear. We developed a neuroimaging-based personalized brain activity model to assess the in-vivo functional impact of AD pathophysiology. In previous reports, model-inferred neuronal excitability predicted disease progression (i.

Background: Vascular cognitive impairment/dementia (VD) is the second most prevalent cause of dementia following Alzheimer's disease (AD). VD is characterized by the progression of white matter hyperintensity burden (WMH) and associated neurodegeneration. GFAP, a biomarker for reactive astrogliosis, is associated with Aβ pathology and mediates tau-pathology in preclinical AD.

Progression thereof across the AD stages has specific temporal and spatial patterns, wherein time is informative of space and vice versa. Here we introduce a novel method, Manifold Component Analysis (MCA), to represent tangle accumulation in 2D, reflecting the spatial aspect of tau propagation stages to further relate it to the temporal aspect thereof.

We report the case of a 67-year-old male with a 10-year history of high-risk prostate cancer, previously treated and currently in remission, who presented with left scrotal swelling. The swelling was clinically and radiologically diagnosed as a hydrocele and treated surgically.

However, barriers in expanded implementation of pharmacogenomics testing include prolonged turnaround times and integration of results into the electronic health record with clinical decision support. A clinical workflow was developed and implemented to facilitate in-house result generation and incorporation into the electronic health record at a large academic medical center.
