Educating Nurses During a Pandemic to Manage Mechanically Ventilated Patients.

Providing care for critically ill patients diagnosed with COVID-19 presented a number of challenges. Initially, few treatment strategies were available; however, evidence of pulmonary complications led to patients' need for ventilators. This article describes the rapid development and implementation of a mechanical ventilation cross-training program for acute care nurses.

Preparing New Graduate Nurses for Patient Rescue: An Experimental Quantitative Study.

A patient deterioration educational program was offered to new graduate nurses. Pre and post self-confidence scores were compared, and competency performance was evaluated during a simulation. The results indicate that most of the participants successfully demonstrated simulation competencies, and there was a statistically significant improvement in self-confidence scores.

The Baptist Health Lexington Nursing Orientation Progression Tool: A Methodological Study.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop and test a tool to monitor a nursing orientee's progress to competence.

Background: The literature suggests that, during orientation, consistent documentation and communication among educators, preceptors, and nurse leaders facilitate a timely progression to independent practice for new nurses.

Effects of dietary daidzein and its metabolite, equol, at physiological concentrations on the growth of estrogen-dependent human breast cancer (MCF-7) tumors implanted in ovariectomized athymic mice.

Genistein and daidzein are the main isoflavones in legumes. Equol is an intestinal bacterial metabolite of daidzein. In this study, we evaluated the estrogenic potential of daidzein and synthetic (+/-)-equol to stimulate growth of estrogen-dependent breast cancer (MCF-7) in vitro and in vivo.
