The term sample dependence describes the troublesome tendency of nominally equivalent samples to exhibit different physical properties. High entropy oxides (HEOs) are a class of materials where sample dependence has the potential to be particularly profound due to their inherent chemical complexity. In this work, we prepare a spinel HEO of identical nominal composition by five distinct methods, spanning a range of thermodynamic and kinetic conditions: solid state, high pressure, hydrothermal, molten salt, and combustion syntheses.

Introduction: Sudanese American and other immigrant and refugee communities are at greater risk for exposure to COVID-19. This survey sought to better characterize COVID-19 vaccination practices, motivators, and drivers for hesitancy among Sudanese Americans.
Methods: We developed an online, cross-sectional survey in English and Arabic distributed by Sudanese American community leaders in April 2022 with data stored anonymously in REDCap.
Genome-wide association studies find that a large number of genetic variants jointly influence the risk of depression, which is summarized by polygenic indices (PGIs) of depressive symptoms and major depression. But PGIs by design remain agnostic about the causal mechanisms linking genes to depression. Meanwhile, the role of adverse life experiences in shaping depression risk is well-documented, including via gene-environment correlation.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAchieving gender equity is a long-standing and ubiquitous challenge in marine science. Creating equitable experiences for all genders in marine science requires recognizing scientists' intersectional identities, and how this leads to unique lived experiences of privilege and marginalization. One approach to increase equitable experiences for women in marine science is to create affinity groups where women can learn from each other, share their experiences, and provide support and mentorship.

Methods: Our cross-sectional survey analysed data from 1376 MSM screened for a partner management intervention in Lima, Peru.
