The DARWIN observatory is a proposed next-generation experiment with 40 tonnes of liquid xenon as an active target in a time projection chamber. To study challenges related to the construction and operation of a multi-tonne scale detector, we have designed and constructed a vertical, full-scale demonstrator for the DARWIN experiment at the University of Zurich. Here, we present the first results from a several-months run with of xenon and electron drift lifetime and transport measurements with a tall purity monitor immersed in the cryogenic liquid.

Microsampling, a reduced volume sampling method, has successfully gained attention at the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) level and established benefits support its use in Toxicokinetic (TK) studies. These improved sampling techniques are less invasive and in large animal species improve animal welfare (refinement). To evaluate if the plasma concentrations of drugs were influenced by the blood sampling method, the traditional method from femoral vein and microsampling from tail vein in Cynomolgus monkeys were compared.

IOA-289 is a novel small molecule inhibitor of autotaxin developed as a first-in-class therapy of fibrotic pathologies including cancer. A method for quantitation of IOA-289 in human plasma was developed using a stable isotope labeled compound ([C]IOA-289) as internal standard. The analytes were extracted from human plasma by protein precipitation and the analysis was performed by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometric detection (LCMS/MS).

Background: In March 2020 we faced a huge spread of the epidemic of SARS-CoV2 in northern Italy; the Emergency Departments (ED) and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were overwhelmed by patients requiring care. The hospitals were forced to reorganize their services, and the ED was the focal point of this challenge. As Emergency Department in a metropolitan area of the region most affected, we saw an increasing number of patients with COVID-19, and we made some structural and staff implementations according to the evolution of the epidemic.
