Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated the effectiveness and acceptance of a 12-week run-walk program for adults aged 18-45 with chronic low back pain (LBP) compared to a waitlist control group.
  • Results showed significant improvements in pain intensity and disability measurements for the running group, with 70% adherence to the program and no participant dropping out.
  • The study concluded that the run-walk program is a suitable and acceptable physical activity option for individuals with chronic LBP.

Reducing atmospheric CO is vital to combat climate change. Alongside reducing emissions, it is essential to capture atmospheric CO and either use it or store it, depending on which option yields the best outcomes. Government policies should coordinate actions in areas such as the bioeconomy and avoid creating perverse incentives.

Functional power-based exercise training can improve physical performance in older adults and cognitive training can improve measures of cognition, but their combined effects on cognition and related risk factors (neurological and inflammatory markers) remains uncertain. This 6-month cluster randomised controlled trial evaluated the effectiveness of dual-task functional power training (DT-FPT) on cognition and circulating neurological and inflammatory markers in older adults at increased falls risk, and whether intervention responses varied by apolipoprotein-E (ApoE) and brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) polymorphisms. Three hundred residents aged ≥ 65 years at increased falls risk residing in 22 independent-living retirement communities, were randomised by village, to DT-FPT (n = 156, 11 villages) involving a multi-component power-based training program performed simultaneously with cognitive and/or motor tasks (45-60 min, 2/week), or a usual care control (CON) group (n = 144, 11 villages).

Objectives: Meropenem is commonly used against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Traditionally, the time unbound antibiotic concentration exceeds the MIC (fT) is used to select carbapenem regimens. We aimed to characterize the effects of different baseline resistance mechanisms on bacterial killing and resistance emergence; evaluate whether fT can predict these effects; and, develop a novel Quantitative and Systems Pharmacology (QSP) model to describe the effects of baseline resistance mechanisms on the time-course of bacterial response.

Objective: Exercise-induced rhinitis (EIR) is a poorly understood condition that can have a massive impact within elite sport. This was epitomized in 2019 when British cyclist and Tour de France winner Chris Froome lost control of his bike at 37 mph while wiping his nose, resulting in an admission to intensive care. We aim to produce a comprehensive resource to guide the assessment and management of rhinitis in athletes.
