Unlabelled: Platelet hyperaggregability contributes to thromboembolic events of obesity in adulthood. In obese children hyperaggregability was described in platelet rich plasma. We investigated platelet aggregation in children with obesity and lipometabolic disorders in whole blood.

Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is proved to prevent heart transplantation in some patients with dilated cardiomyopathy and mechanical dyssynchrony. We report of the benefit of CRT accomplished by atrial synchronized single-site left ventricular pacing in an 8-year-old boy with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, normal atrioventricular conduction, borderline QRS complex duration (120 ms), and marked mechanical left ventricular dyssynchrony proved by echocardiographic speckle tracking.

Study Design: A 1-year prospective study of the influence of surveillance methods on the surgical wound infection rates in a tertiary care spinal surgery unit.

Objectives: To assess the effect of postdischarge surveillance, the diagnostic indications for surgery, and the type of procedure on the surgical wound infection rates.

Summary Of Background Data: Use of the National Nosocomial Infection Surveillance system for surgical wound infection resulted in infection rates above the published values for procedures performed by the Spinal Surgical Service.

The State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and its associated teaching sites have developed and partially implemented a regional Wide Area Network (WAN) in Buffalo and Western New York. The school wishes to use this WAN to deliver reference and communication resources to students, residents and faculty. The richest pool of easy to use reference and communication resources are PC software programs that are intended for individual workstations or at best, client-server, Local Area Network (LAN) implementation.
