Article Synopsis
  • The zoonotic transmission of influenza A viruses (IAVs) and coronaviruses (CoVs) can lead to severe diseases, and the cleavage of glycoproteins is essential for their infectivity.
  • The study focused on the role of transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) in cleaving viral proteins in human airway cells and its dependency for different IAV and CoV strains.
  • Results showed that while TMPRSS2 is crucial for the activation of certain viruses like H1N1/1918 and MERS-CoV, others like SARS-CoV and some IAV subtypes show less dependency, indicating the potential for alternative proteases and highlighting TMPRSS2 as

This article addresses how diverse collective behaviours arise from simple and realistic decisions made entirely at the level of each agent's personal space in the sense of the Voronoi diagram. We present a discrete-time model in two dimensions in which individual agents are aware of their local Voronoi environment and may seek static target locations. In particular, agents only communicate directly with their Voronoi neighbours and make decisions based on the geometry of their own Voronoi cells.

Over the last decade, the emergence of several zoonotic viruses has demonstrated that previously unknown or neglected pathogens have the potential to cause epidemics and therefore to pose a threat to global public health. Even more concerning are the estimated 1.7 million still-undiscovered viruses present in the natural environment or 'global virome', with many of these as-yet uncharacterized viruses predicted to be pathogenic for humans.

BACKGROUND The presence of anatomical variations of the hepatic artery poses a challenge for normothermic machine perfusion (NMP). Here, we describe our experience of creating a single arterial cannulation for NMP in 3 donor livers with replaced right hepatic artery. CASE REPORT Three donor livers with replaced right hepatic artery were perfused using NMP (OrganOx® metra®) for liver transplantation.
