Prevalence and risk factors for the development of chronic postoperative pain after cataract surgery in the Age-related Eye Disease Study (AREDS).

Chronic ocular pain impacts quality of life and is often linked to ocular surgery. We assessed the prevalence of chronic postoperative pain (CPOP) after cataract surgery and associated risk factors using a secondary cohort post-hoc analysis of data from the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS), a multicenter, controlled, randomized clinical trial of antioxidant vitamins and minerals. Ocular pain was determined from item 4 of the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ-25), administered between 1997 and 2005.

Comparison of Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms Causing Early Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia in Three Geographically Distinct Trauma Intensive Care Units.

It is unclear why differences in patient location change organisms causing ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). We investigated VAP organisms in three geographically separate trauma intensive care units (TICUs). A retrospective review of organisms causing VAP (bronchoalveolar lavage [BAL] performed ≤7 d after admission and growing ≥10 cfu/mL) in three geographically separate TICUs was conducted.

The sow vaginal and gut microbiota associated with longevity and reproductive performance.

Background: Sow longevity and reproductivity are essential in the modern swine industry. Although many studies have focused on the genetic and genomic factors for selection, little is known about the associations between the microbiome and sows with longevity in reproduction.

Results: In this study, we collected and sequenced rectal and vaginal swabs from 48 sows, nine of which completed up to four parities (U4P group), exhibiting reproductive longevity.

Correlation of the clinical rating scale for tremor with a global assessment.

Objective: The Fahn-Tolosa-Marín Clinical Rating Scale for Tremor (CRST) includes three parts (tremor severity, motor task performance, functional disability) and a separate global assessment of impairment completed by both the patient and examiner. Although the CRST is used to determine tremor severity and the efficacy of treatments for tremor, the instrument may not sufficiently capture the patient's perspective. The objective of this study was to determine the association of the CRST subpart and total scores with the global assessment.
