The gut microbiome plays a critical role in maintaining gut and metabolic health, and its composition is often altered by aging and obesity. This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of curcumin on gut dysbiosis, gut barrier integrity, and bile acid homeostasis in aged mice fed a high-fat, high-sugar diet (HFHSD). Eighteen- to twenty-one-month-old male C57BL/6 mice were divided into groups fed a normal chow diet or HFHSD, with or without curcumin supplementation (0.

Background: The Pitt Public Health evaluation team used a mixed-methods, community-based participatory research method of concept mapping to evaluate factors affecting the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) opioid overdose surveillance and prevention project outcomes for Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Methods: In June 2021 we developed the focal prompt: "What factors work to help or limit OD2A program outcomes at the individual, community, and or/system level?"Community partners participated in three phases: Brainstorming, Sorting and Rating, and Interpretation. Using concept mapping software, we applied multidimensional scaling to visualize a point map displaying factors and their relative relationships, and hierarchical cluster analysis to generate concept maps displaying clusters of factors.

Objective: To execute a large-scale, decentralized, clinical-grade whole exome sequencing study, coined Tapestry, for clinical practice, research discovery, and genomic education.

Patients And Methods: Between July 1, 2020, and May 31, 2024, we invited 1,287,608 adult Mayo Clinic patients to participate in Tapestry. Of those contacted, 114,673 patients were consented and 98,222 (65.

Background: Physical activity is essential for maintaining muscle mitochondrial function and aerobic capacity. The molecular mechanisms underlying such protective effects are incompletely understood, in part because it is difficult to separate the effects of disease status and physical activity. We explored the association of human skeletal muscle transcriptomic with four measures of energetics and mitochondria oxidative capacity in healthy individuals.

: Pectus excavatum (PEx) is considered, at least partially, a familial disorder. A variety of inheritance patterns, associations with genetic syndromes, and pathogenic variants have been reported. However, the etiology of this condition is still not completely understood, and no known genes have been identified as definitive contributors.
