Objectives: Supplemental zinc during acute diarrhea reduces illness duration but also increases vomiting. In a recent trial, we found that children receiving lower daily doses of zinc (5 mg or 10 mg vs. 20 mg) had lower rates of vomiting with comparable stool output and duration of diarrhea.

Grey mullets (family Mugilidae) are widespread across coastal, brackish, and freshwater habitats, and have supported fisheries for millennia. Despite their global distribution and commercial value, little is known about their movement ecology and its role in the co-existence of sympatric mullet species. Gaps in knowledge about migratory behaviour, seasonal occurrence, and movement scales have also impeded effective management, highlighting the need for further research.

Background: As the opioid epidemic continues, a better understanding of the use of opioids in surgery is needed. We examined whether intraoperative opioid administration was associated with greater postoperative opioid use prior to discharge in opioid-naïve patients undergoing thoracic surgery. Further, we sought to determine predictors of higher intra- and postoperative opioid use including demographic and patient factors and hospital.

Background: The United Network of Organ Sharing made changes to the priority for allocation of hearts for transplantation (HT) in 2016 for pediatric patients and 2018 for adult patients. Although recent work has evaluated the impact of the revised allocation systems on mechanical circulatory support practices and waitlist outcomes, there are limited data that focus more specifically on the impact of the allocation changes on patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) or cardiomyopathy and how these relationships might differ in pediatric and adult patients.

Methods: The United Network of Organ Sharing database was queried for pediatric (<18 years of age) and adult (18-50 years of age) patients with a CHD or cardiomyopathy diagnosis listed for HT.
