Background: Low back pain (LBP) is predominantly caused by degeneration of the intervertebral disc (IVD) and central nucleus pulposus (NP) region. Conservative treatments fail to restore disc function, motivating the exploration of nucleic acid therapies, such as the use of microRNAs (miRNAs). miRNAs have the potential to modulate expression of discogenic factors, while silencing the catabolic cascade associated with degeneration.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTension gastrothorax is a rare and potentially fatal complication of a diaphragmatic hernia, in which a massively dilated, intrathoracic stomach compresses the lungs and mediastinum, causing cardiorespiratory compromise, in a mechanism akin to tension pneumothorax. Although it is very rare, tension gastrothorax has been reported in the literature; however, such reports are almost exclusively restricted to its clinical presentation and treatment in emergency departments. To the best of our knowledge, no adult autopsy case reports of tension gastrothorax have been reported in the literature.

The cohesin complex is a critical regulator of gene expression. STAG2 is the most frequently mutated cohesin subunit across several cancer types and is a key tumor suppressor in lung cancer. Here, we coupled somatic CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing and tumor barcoding with an autochthonous oncogenic KRAS-driven lung cancer model and showed that STAG2 is uniquely tumor-suppressive among all core and auxiliary cohesin components.
