Fiber is essential for rumen health, microbial fermentation, and the energy supply of herbivores. Even though the study of fecal fiber contents (neutral detergent fiber NDF, acid detergent fiber ADF, and acid detergent lignin ADL) using near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) has allowed investigating nutritional ecology of different herbivore species, NIRS calibrations are species-specific and require a large number of samples for predictions. A multispecies calibration would be an advantage since samples from different herbivores could be used to calibrate a model capable of predicting the fecal fiber content of other herbivores.

- The Fe Mössbauer spectra at temperatures above 150 K revealed a specific ratio of doublets that corresponded to different iron sites within the cluster, confirming a previously proposed spin ground state structure where spins are aligned differently among the central and peripheral sites.
- At sub-Kelvin temperatures, the behavior of the cluster changed, showing spin blocking and single-molecule magnet characteristics, along with a defined anisotropy barrier that allows for quantum tunneling at low temperatures.
Many terrestrial plant communities, especially forests, have been shown to lag in response to rapid climate change. Grassland communities may respond more quickly to novel climates, as they consist mostly of short-lived species, which are directly exposed to macroclimate change. Here we report the rapid response of grassland communities to climate change in the California Floristic Province.
