Objective: This retrospective study evaluates the efficacy of povidone-iodine (PI) and polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) as preoperative antiseptics in equine ophthalmic procedures.
Animals Studied: Horses that underwent routine ophthalmic surgery and procedures.
Procedures: Data were collected retrospectively from the medical records of equine patients undergoing ophthalmic procedures.
Objective: There is limited knowledge regarding the safety and accuracy of ultrasound-guided retrobulbar nerve blocks in horses. The aim of this study was to compare these parameters between blind and ultrasound-guided injection techniques for the dorsal retrobulbar nerve block in horses.
Methods: Equine cadaver heads were used to inject the retrobulbar space with contrast medium (CM).

Objective: Using tonometers, intraocular pressure (IOP) is merely measured indirectly leading to measurement inaccuracies. All available technical devices are designed for humans, hence a calibration via comparison to manometric measurements is necessary for their use in veterinary medicine. In this study, the applanation tonometer Tono-Pen Avia Vet™ (TPA) was to be calibrated for use in dogs and cats resulting in the calculation of a correction factor.
