Incarcerated obturator hernia: case diagnosed at barium enema fluoroscopy.

Incarcerated obturator hernia is an uncommon entity that on occasion may produce specific radiographic findings and clinical signs (Howship-Romberg sign) that permit diagnosis prior to celiotomy. A case is reported in which the diagnosis was suggested when pain in the thigh was elicited during the course of a barium enema examination.

Double-contrast barium meal and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. A comparative study.

One hundred randomly selected inpatients were examined with both double-contrast barium meal and endoscopy in a blinded prospective fashion. All studies were done by staff personnel, with equal clinical information available to both the radiologist and endoscopist. The final diagnosis was made by a review committee of participating radiologists and endoscopists.

Management of Crohn's disease involving the duodenum, including duodenal cutaneous fistula.

Crohn's disease involving the duodenum is rare and is usually associated with Crohn's disease elsewhere in the alimentary tract. Seven patients were treated at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center with complications of Crohn's disease involving the duodenum. These included two patients with abscess and duodenoileocolocutaneous fistulas, two with gastrointestinal tract bleeding, one with gastric outlet obstruction, and two with symptoms of small-bowel disease only.
