The Russian threat and the consolidation of the West: How populism and EU-skepticism shape party support for Ukraine.

Support for Ukraine against Russian aggression has been strong across Europe, but it is far from uniform. An expert survey of the positions taken by political parties in 29 countries conducted mid-2023 reveals that 97 of 269 parties reject one or more of the following: providing weapons, hosting refugees, supporting Ukraine's path to European Union membership, or accepting higher energy costs. Where the perceived threat from Russia is most severe, we find the greatest levels of support for Ukraine.

Long-term Outcomes of Surgically Treated Congenital Dislocation of the Knee.

Background: Congenital dislocation of the knee (CDK) may be idiopathic or associated with another condition, such as Larsen syndrome or arthrogryposis. Surgical reduction of type-3 dislocation may require quadricepsplasty (QP) or femoral diaphyseal shortening (FS). Because it is unknown which treatment is more effective, we evaluated long-term outcomes using patient-reported questionnaires and gait analysis, comparing results by surgery type and underlying diagnosis.

Interference screw versus suture button fixation for tibialis anterior tendon transfer: a biomechanical analysis.

Tibialis anterior tendon (TAT) transfer to the lateral cuneiform is commonly utilized to treat dynamic supination for relapsed clubfoot deformity. Traditional suture button fixation (SBF) may lead to skin necrosis at the button/skin interface. While interference screw fixation (ISF) would mitigate this concern, this fixation method has not been investigated in clubfoot patients.

Decision-making as discovery: Vetting clinical research in a leading precision oncology service.

Based on fieldwork carried out at the Early Drug Development Service of a world-leading cancer institution, our study sheds lights on decision-making processes at the stage where decisions are made about which clinical trial to pursue and thus which experimental drugs will feed the growing pipeline of molecularly guided therapies and therapeutic strategies available to treating physicians. The paper shows how such collective decision-making practices by a translational research unit employ formal tools and ad hoc valuation strategies that interweave technical-scientific matters of concern with patient-oriented clinical ones, as part of the institutional assetization of biomedical knowledge production. In the process, decision-making practices in part define the conditions of possibility for the provision of care in what is increasingly becoming a 'clinic of variants.
