Intraoral salivary lymphoepithelial carcinoma: clinicopathologic and immunophenotypic characterization of 3 cases indicates elevated programmed death-ligand 1 expression.

Objective: Intraoral salivary lymphoepithelial carcinoma (ISLEC) is a rare malignancy with programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression levels that have been greatly understudied. We examined the clinicopathologic and immunophenotypic characteristics, including PD-L1 levels, of 3 cases of ISLEC.

Study Design: We searched the archives of 2 oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories for specimens diagnosed as ISLEC between 1985 and 2022.

The University of Tennessee's accelerated family medicine residency program 1992-2002: an 11-year report.

Background And Objectives: In 1992, with the approval of the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) (formerly known as the American Board of Family Practice), we established an accelerated residency program (ARP) involving five residency programs at the University of Tennessee (UT). An accredited resident can complete medical school and residency in a combined total of 6 years. This paper is a report of our experience with the ARP.

Increased medication use in a community environmentally exposed to chemicals.

An epidemiological health study compared the health status of residents of a town exposed to an accidental Catacarb chemical release from an adjacent oil refinery, with the health status of demographically similar residents of an unexposed town in the region. Few studies of Catacarb's effects on humans exist; however, animal studies have shown it to be a respiratory, gastro-intestinal, dermatological and visual irritant. As part of the study, health questionnaires assessing pre- and post exposure symptoms, illnesses and medication use were mailed to residents in both towns.

Epidemiological health study of a town exposed to chemicals.

The purpose of this survey was to assess the health status of community residents exposed to a 16-day release of Catacarb from a nearby refinery and to document the prevalence rates of symptoms and illnesses of this town. The health status of the exposed residents was compared to that of unexposed residents of a demographically similar control town. An epidemiologic study design was used and questionnaires were mailed to all households in both towns.

Medicare costs in urban areas and the supply of primary care physicians.

Background: The supply of primary care physicians may be important determinants of health care costs. We examined the association between primary care physician supply and geographic location with respect to variation in Medicare Supplementary Medical Insurance (Part B) reimbursement.
