Background: By 2025, an estimated three-quarters of the global population aged 60 and older will live in Latin American and Caribbean countries (LAC), leading to a rise in age-related conditions. The main goal of the Panama Aging Research Initiative - Health Disparities (PARI-HD) research program is to create a platform for multidisciplinary clinical studies that focus on mental health and its diseases such as age-related cognitive decline. This platform would generate a large amount of clinical, neuropsychological, lifestyle, genetic and biomarker data following standardized research protocols.

Data-Driven Community Engagement: Using Quantitative and Qualitative Data to Set Priorities and Launch New Initiatives in a Growing Catchment Area.

In 2022, the catchment area of the Fred Hutchinson/University of Washington/Seattle Children's Cancer Consortium (the Consortium) grew from 13-counties in Western Washington State to include all 39 counties in Washington. Widening the catchment area provided new opportunities for the Consortium to monitor the cancer burden, identify cancer-related health disparities, use a bidirectional approach to develop cancer focused programming, and facilitate research in clinical and community settings. In this commentary, we describe the exploratory process of catchment area change led by the Consortium's Office of Community Outreach and Engagement and new initiatives that followed that growth.

Advances in A-to-I RNA editing in cancer.

RNA modifications are widespread throughout the mammalian transcriptome and play pivotal roles in regulating various cellular processes. These modifications are strongly linked to the development of many cancers. One of the most prevalent forms of RNA modifications in humans is adenosine-to-inosine (A-to-I) editing, catalyzed by the enzyme adenosine deaminase acting on RNA (ADAR) in double-stranded RNA (dsRNA).

Education and Training Needs of Health Care Professionals in the Philippines Encountering Patients with Lung Oligometastatic Cancers.

This study aimed to examine the education and training needs of health care practitioners (HCPs) in the Philippines who encounter lung oligometastatic cancer patients. Lung oligometastatic disease is among the most common sites for cancer spread and has the most established practices for treating oligometastases. A modified version of the Hennessy-Hicks Training Needs Assessment Questionnaire was administered online to HCPs working in private and public centers in the Philippines.

Antiracist activism for immigrant rights and healthy coping: Initial evidence for a community-based framework.

Racist and xenophobic policies in the United States (e.g., family separations and lack of access to protected immigration statuses for undocumented immigrants) have historically excluded immigrants of color from accessing full civil rights, thus contributing to widening racial inequities in the US.
