Three capillary dialyzers, with highly permeable membranes, have been compared for their capacity of epuration of blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, phosphorus, uric acid and beta 2 microglobulin, and for their respective protein losses. There were very little differences between the dialyzers for epuration of small uremic molecules, with no benefit due to high permeability membranes in comparison with conventional dialyzers. Protein losses may be important and have to be known.

A case of auto-immune thrombocytopenic purpura in a woman with benign cystic leiomyoma in Retzius' space is reported. The platelet Coombs' test was positive on platelets; the indirect Coombs' test was negative on serum but strongly positive on cyst fluid. Following excision of the leiomyoma thrombocytopenia rapidly subsided and the serological findings became negative, which strongly suggests that the antibody was produced by the tumour.

Hemoglobin E has been discovered casually in the blood of two French donors: one coming from the Alsace region, the other one coming from the Champagne region. In the two cases, the hemoglobin E is in an heterozygote state and takes the place of 33 per cent of the total haemoglobin in the first and 24 per cent in the second. We investigated in their families and found that other members of these families had hemoglobin E.
