Background And Purpose: Non-traditional risk factors such as chronic inflammation, oxidative stress and thrombogenic factors are believed to contribute to the excess stroke risk in chronic kidney disease (CKD) by triggering vascular injury and endothelial dysfunction. We aimed to determine how well a panel of biomarkers representative of these factors would correlate with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in patients with recent transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or stroke. We also investigated whether eGFR would confound previously reported associations between biomarkers and mortality.

Background and Purpose- APOE-ε4 genotype is a risk factor for sporadic Alzheimer disease and reduced recovery from brain injury. Since data on APOE genotype and dementia associated with transient ischemic attack/stroke are sparse, we determined the associations in a longitudinal population-based cohort. Methods- All patients with transient ischemic attack or stroke (2002-2012) in a defined population of 92 728 OxVASC (Oxford Vascular Study) had follow-up to 5-years.

Hepatocytes derived from diabetic rats were cultured in serum-free Waymouth's medium containing various supplements, after an initial 4 h period during which the cells were allowed to attach to the culture dish in the presence of foetal-bovine serum (10%). After removal of serum, these cells secreted much less very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) apoprotein B (apoB) and triacylglycerol than those derived from normal rats when cultured for 24 h in the basal medium. Inclusion of oleate (0.
