Background: Depression treatments aim to minimize symptom burden and optimize quality of life (QoL) and psychosocial function.
Objective: Compare the effects of adjunctive versus sham vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) on QoL and function in markedly treatment-resistant depression (TRD).
Methods: In this multicenter, double-blind, sham-controlled trial, 493 adults with TRD and ≥4 adequate but unsuccessful antidepressant treatment trials (current episode) were randomized to active (n = 249) or sham (n = 244) VNS (plus treatment as usual) over a 12-month observation period.
Study Objectives: The aims of this review were to identify existing national surveillance systems monitoring one or more domains of sleep health in adults, and to describe the specific sleep health indicators used.
Methods: We systematically searched the gray and peer-reviewed literature for routinely conducted cross-sectional and longitudinal nationally representative health surveys that included the assessment of at least one domain of sleep health. The methodology involved: (1) targeted searches of the websites of national and international health agencies and statistics departments for 199 countries, (2) country-specific customized internet searches, and (3) country-specific electronic database searches of PubMed.
Tardigrades, microscopic animals that survive a broad range of environmental stresses, express a unique set of proteins termed tardigrade-specific intrinsically disordered proteins (TDPs). TDPs are often expressed at high levels in tardigrades upon desiccation, and appear to mediate stress adaptation. Here, we focus on the proteins belonging to the secreted family of tardigrade proteins termed secretory-abundant heat soluble ("SAHS") proteins, and investigate their ability to protect diverse biological structures.

We present a protocol for variant calling, merging, genotyping, sensitivity analysis, and laboratory validation for generating a high-quality SV call set in whole-genome sequencing from the Alzheimer's Disease Sequencing Project comprising 578 individuals from 111 families. Employing two complementary pipelines, Scalpel and Parliament, for SV/indel calling, we assessed sensitivity through sample replicates (N = 9) with in silico variant spike-ins.

Here, we engineer a variant of the naturally-occurring driver of lactation, the hormone Prolactin, to increase its serum half-life and produce a viable drug candidate.
